The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

Fitness has always been a big part of my life. I've always loved to run, but since moving to Iowa 3 years ago I've developed a love for group fitness classes. About a year ago, a friend encouraged me to do a Les Mills training for BodyAttack. Over the course of the last year, I've added Sprint class, as well as Fit Kids. I love sharing my love and passion for fitness with others!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? The ability to fly. 

What is your guilty pleasure? Gummy candy and Netflix. 

What do you like to do in your free time?  Go running or spend time with my family. 

What is your favorite exercise? Running, but BodyAttack is a close second!

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you? I would chose my husband and 3 kids. And the 5 things I would want with me: 

1) Sunglasses

2) An endless supply of fresh water

3) A big selection of candy 

4) Sunscreen

5) A lounge chair

The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

I fell in love with Zumba and group fitness about 5 years ago. When I moved back to Coralville to start my Spanish teaching job 2 years ago I started taking classes again and was asked to get my instructor certificate. It was a wonderful opportunity that I could not pass up, and I have been fortunate enough to have been teaching amazing students ever since! I love that Zumba encourages passion, movement, and individuality. Most of all, it is FUN!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? I would love to be able to fly. My siblings live all over the country and it'd be nice to be able to easily visit them without having to pay for a plain ticket!

What is your guilty pleasure? Daily dessert!

What do you like to do in your free time? I love going to movies, Netflix-ing, reading crocheting and coloring. 

If you had one wish, what would it be? I'd love to live in the same state as my family! It'd also be nice to not have to grade papers every weekend!

What is your favorite exercise? Zumba! :)

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Driven. 

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you? I wouldn't mind being stranded with the cast of Parks and Recreation and I'd want to have sunscreen, plenty of good food and water, a volleyball, and a change of clothes.

I want to make a personal investment in my fitness while helping others meet their fitness goals. Over the past 5 years, I consistently challenged myself and exceed goals that I never dreamed I would accomplish. Fitness has taught me the powerful statement: "The Mind Achieves What the Mind Believes." Since I have become a Les Mills Grit and CXWorx Certified Instructor, I make a daily goal to provide the participants in my class the most fun, yet challenging workout every class.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? To cure cancer. 

What is your guilty pleasure? Chocolate Peanut M&M's.

What do you like to do in your free time? Travel.

If you could have one wish, what would it be? To see my Great-Grandmother again.

What is your favorite exercise? It changes from time-to-time, but right now it is Hip Thrusters (yep, the exercise we do in CX!).

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Determined.

If you were stranded on a island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you? 

I would want all my closest friends, family, fiance, his children and our four-legged companions. 

1 - 5. Bare essentials for everyone to stay healthy, safe and survive. 

 

Would you rather?

- Watch TV or read a book? At the moment, watch TV since I'm behind on all of my favorite shows. 

- Have a night out or an evening in? Both. I love the feeling of home, but a night out occasionally creates amazing memories. 

- Go climbing or zip lining? Zip lining! This is on my bucket list!

- Camp in an RV or stay in a tent? An RV so it can be a traveling home. 

- Play kickball or dodgeball? Kickball.

My next door neighbor was a water aerobics instructor and basically just asked me to take over when she moved. I was horrible! I recorded tapes from the radio like the Grease soundtrack. I had no choreography or thought behind my workouts. That was 23 years ago though, and here I am, 23 years later!

Get to know Andrea

If you could have a super power, what would it be? If I had a super power, it would be that of supreme convincibility. To get anyone to do whatever I ask. It would make getting my kids teeth brushed at night so much easier!

What is your guilty pleasure? My guilty pleasure... so many! Flo Rida. Also, really bad, "b" horror movies. American Horror story. Lindt Truffles. 

What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I like to read, educate myself, chill out outside with a cup of coffee, and teach my kids important things in life, like how to ride a bike, or to really look at the color of leaves, or how to best catch lady bugs. 

If you had one wish, what would it be? One wish would be that there would be no terminal illness. 

What is your favorite exercise? My favorite exercise... hmmmm... BodyCombat is my favorite class. I'm working on a handstand push-up and one day I'll do it! I love to lift shoulders, but I have a hard time picking just one exercise. 

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Annoyergenic. (That's annoying energetic.)

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you?

I got into fitness about three years ago because I have seen how group exercise classes have changed my life to moving toward a healthier and happier lifestyle. I wanted to be someone who could inspire that change in others. Whether it is the fun dance cardio of BodyJam, the peacefulness of BodyFlow, or the intensity of BodyCombat, CXWorx, BodyPump or BodyAttack, I love to move and be active. Through exercise I have done things I would have never thought possible even five years ago.

 If you could have a super power, what would it be? To be able to fly.

What is your guilty pleasure? Diet Coke.

What do you like to do in your free time? Read, exercise and travel. 

If you had one wish, what would it be? To somehow end poverty. 

What is your favorite exercise? BodyJam and BodyFlow are both AMAZING!

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Energetic. 

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you? 

  1. I would want my closest friends.

The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

I have been a fitness and activity junkie my whole life.  I grew up as a dancer and was on the Dance Team at the University of Iowa.  After college I got into group fitness and finally took the leap to become a Body Pump instructor 2 1/2 years ago.  I was pregnant with my son at the time.  After the birth of our daughter, I decided to also get certified as a spin instructor.  I have had the opportunity to teach group fitness classes all over the country and even in Barbados!!! I am looking forward to CXWorx certification and so much more!  I love teaching and watching people progress in not only their strength, but also confidence in what they can really achieve.  What a wonderful gift to be trusted to assist someone in their wellness journey!  It is something that I will never take for granted.

If you could have a super power what would it be?  Flying!!!  

What is your guilty pleasure?  Anything Salted Caramel!!!!

What do you like to do in your free time?  Playing with my kids and traveling!

If you had one wish, what would it be?  Sappy time...to have my kids grow up healthy, safe and happy.

What is your favorite exercise?  Squat Plate Push-press...hello multi-tasking movement!

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be? GO!

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you?

I’d want my husband and my kiddo's, obviously :)
